Taoyuan International Airport in Taoyuan city is the largest airport in Taiwan and serves the capital city, Taipei. Because the airport is a one-hour drive (or 35-50 minute MRT ride) from Taipei, some people choose to stay in a hotel near Taoyuan Airport for catching the early flight.
You have several options: a capsule hotel inside Taoyuan Airport, Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport right next to the airport, a cheaper hostel or hotel near the airport, or more options in Taoyuan city center (20-minute drive) or even Taipei.
In this article, I’ll introduce all of the above options in detail so that you can decide what’s best for you.

Best Hotels at Taoyuan Airport
Best Hotel at the Airport: Novotel Taoyuan Airport
Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (see on Booking / Agoda) is the official Airport Hotel of Taoyuan Airport. While it’s not right inside the airport terminal, it is on the Airport grounds and its windows overlook airport runways.
The hotel has everything you could hope for in an airport hotel: comfortable rooms, swimming pool, sauna, gym, spa, free computers for use, and children’s playcenter.
The hotel even has its own Airport MRT stop, “Airport Hotel” station. If you’re coming from Taipei, the Airport MRT stops at Airport Terminal 1, Airport Terminal 2, (Airport Terminal 3 when it opens in 2026), then Airport Hotel station.
The last MRT of the day leaves Taipei Main Station at 23:07 and arrives at Airport Hotel at 12:01. Search all the Airport MRT times here.
Coming from Taoyuan HSR station, the Airport MRT would stop at the hotel right before the airport stops. The last one of the day would leave Taoyuan HSR station at 23:49 and arrive at Airport Hotel at 12:13.
To catch an early flight after staying at Novotel, the first MRT of the day departs from Airport Hotel station at 6:00 AM, reaching T2 in 3 minutes and T1 in 6 minutes. The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus – here’s the schedule and where to wait for it.
Outside of the MRT and shuttle bus hours, you can also take a taxi between the hotel and airport. The ride is less than five minutes and should cost around TWD 100. You could also walk to it in about 20 minutes.

Hotel Inside the Airport: Cho Capsule Hotel
Cho Capsule Hotel (see on Booking / Agoda) is the only hotel inside Taoyuan International Airport. It is a modern and luxurious Japanese capsule-style hotel. This means it only offers individual capsules in a shared male or female dorm room, double capsule beds in a mixed dorm, or more private quadruple capsules with a door.
You get your own private wooden pod with light, charging station, and clothing hangers. Tea is provided, and you can find the airport’s 24-hour FamilyMart right outside the hotel.
Besides the FamilyMart, there are a few restaurants on the same floor open in the daytime, and more in the airport’s B2 Food Court.
The minimum age for kids to stay here is 4. Kids age 4 to 6 must stay with an adult in a double or quad, while kids age 7+ must stay in their own pod. Check-in time is after 16:00 and check out is before 10:00. More FAQs are answered on the hotel’s official site.
The hotel is located on the very quiet 5th floor of T2 at the airport. To find it, start from the Departures Hall (3F) and walk to the hall at its far southern end. Take the escalator or elevator near check-in Gate 22 up to the 5th floor, which is also the location of the Southern Airplane Observation Deck.
The capsule hotel is not cheap, has limited space, and I find that it’s almost always fully booked.
Cheap Hotel near Taoyuan Airport: Backpackers Hostel
The cheapest hotel near Taoyuan International Airport is Backpackers Hostel Taoyuan Airport (see on Booking / Agoda).
This hostel provides doubles with private or shared bathrooms and male or female dorms. Rooms are smallish (normal for a hostel) but clean and the owner is friendly.
There are a few food stalls in the area at night, a traditional Taiwanese breakfast shop, and a 24-hour 7-Eleven nearby.
The hostel is a bit far from the nearest Airport MRT station (30-minute walk from Kengkou station, which is one stop before the airport when coming from Taipei) but the owner offers to pick up guests from the MRT station.
The hostel doesn’t have an airport shuttle, but the staff will call a taxi for you. The ride to/from the Airport only takes 5 to 8 minutes.
Like many smaller accommodations in Taiwan, you may notice that this hostel only releases its rooms 2-3 months in advance. Find out how far ahead the rooms are currently available by clicking the Booking link and clicking the date field to open the availability calendar.

Mid-Range Hotel near the Airport: City Suites
The second cheapest hotel near Taoyuan Airport is City Suites – Taoyuan Gateway (see on Booking / Agoda).
This one is more like a standard 3-star hotel. You’ll have a typical hotel room, breakfast included (passable but nothing special), and 24-hour front desk. The hotel is a little older and more run-down than it looks in the pictures.
City Suites is on the Taoyuan city (not Taipei) side of the Airport. It’s a 10-minute walk from Dayuan Station on the Airport MRT line, which is one stop after Airport Hotel or 2/3 stops from Terminal 2/1 when coming from Taipei.
From Dayuan, you can ride the Airport MRT to Taoyuan HSR station in only 10 minutes for shopping at Gloria Outlets, visiting Xpark Aquarium, or taking the HSR to other cities in Taiwan. You can also ride it to Huanbei station (23 minutes) for Zhongli Night Market, the best night market in Taoyuan city (see my Taiwan night markets guide).
Again there is not shuttle bus offered, but a taxi to/from the airport will take 10 minutes and cost around TWD 160 (200 if you ask the desk to arrange it for you).
Hotel Options in Taoyuan City
Taoyuan International Airport is actually in Taoyuan city, not Taipei (see my Taoyuan city guide). Therefore, some people opt to stay in a hotel in Taoyuan because it’s closer to the airport than Taipei.
You need to be a little careful when choosing where to stay in Taoyuan. The city is very large, with different urban centers. Some parts of Taoyuan are very far from the airport.
Zhongli district of Taoyuan city is the most convenient because it has the Taoyuan HSR station, which is connected to an Airport MRT station for getting to the airport. Driving time from Zhongli to/from the Airport can take anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic.
Note that Zhongli train station (for regular TRA trains) is NOT on the Airport MRT line. If you need to get from the airport to Zhongli or Taoyuan regular train stations, taxi is the best option.
Zhongli Night Market (near Airport MRT Huanbei station) is also in Zhongli.
Taoyuan city center, including Taoyuan train station, does not have an HSR or MRT station, so it is the least convenient for airport access.
My most recommended hotel in Taoyuan City is Cozzi Blue (see on Booking / Agoda). It is located in Zhongli, in the same building as Xpark aquarium, a popular attraction that I highly recommend (read about my experience visiting Xpark).
This modern hotel is kid-friendly and marine-themed (due to the aquarium connection). They even have a penguin robot that delivers room service!
For something really special, the hotel also manages the sleepover in Xpark Aquarium experience.
Cozzi Blue is a 5-minute walk from Gloria Outlets and 10-minute walk from Taoyuan HSR and Airport MRT station (you have to walk through the outlets to get there). They offer a free shuttle bus to the MRT/HSR station in the daytime.
From Taoyuan HSR station, that’s a 16-minute ride to Airport Terminal 2 or 19-minute ride to Airport Terminal 1. The first MRT of the day departs Taoyuan HSR at 6:02 AM and gets there at 6:21, while the last one departs Taoyuan HSR at 23:49 and gets there at 12:19.
For a budget stay in the same area, I recommend Bluewater Hotel (藍水輕旅 on GoogleMaps) (see on Booking / Agoda). The hotel has clean, modern, and affordable singles or doubles with shared bathrooms.
This one is also a 10-minute walk from Taoyuan HSR/MRT station, 10-minute walk to Gloria Outlets, or 15-minute walk to Xpark.
Or Just Stay in Taipei City?
Whenever travelers are considering staying in a hotel near the airport or in Taoyuan city, I usually advise them to also consider simply staying in Taipei (see my Taipei city guide).
Taipei overall has far more hotels to choose from, in all budget categories. It also has more attractions, 24-hour restaurants, and famous night markets to choose from (see my guides to Shilin, Raohe, and Ningxia night markets).
The traveling time on the Airport MRT from Taipei Main Station to Taoyuan Airport is only 35 minutes (express, every second one) or 50 minutes (commuter type).
The first Airport MRT of the day departs Taipei at 6:00 AM, getting you to the airport at 6:36, which is enough time for flights departing at 8:30 AM or later.
For convenience, choose a hotel near the Airport MRT station in Taipei. Star Hostel (see on Booking / Agoda), which tops my list of best hostels in Taipei, is a short walk from the Airport MRT station.
I had an excellent stay at Star Hostel – it’s clean, bright, friendly, and has cozy dorms. See my other recommended hostels in Taipei – there are several other good ones around Taipei Main Station if Star Hostel is full. Also note: Star Hostel has a minimum 2-night stay, but others don’t.
Roaders Plus (see on Booking / Agoda) is a great mid-range and kid-friendly option, with amazing city views. It is a 7-minute walk from the Airport MRT station.
The hotel small but nicely designed rooms, a children’s playing area, and free snacks at check-in. There’s no breakfast (here are my recommended breakfast shops around Taipei Main Station). Also note: Roaders Theme has cheaper rooms lower down in the same building.
For an upscale option, Palais de Chine (see on Booking / Agoda) is only five minutes’ walk from the Airport MRT. It has Taiwan’s only Michelin 3-star restaurant.
There are several other excellent luxury hotels in Taipei, so make sure to shop around a little before you decide.
If your flight is departing too early or too late for riding the Airport MRT, then you can book a private transfer to the airport from any hotel in Taipei city. The drive takes 45 minutes (middle of the night with no traffic), one hour (normal driving time) or up to 75 minutes (rush hour).
See my guide to best hotels in Taipei for choosing your hotel in the city.
