Alishan Region

Located in Chiayi County, the Alishan region is famed for the Alishan Forest Railway, high mountain tea, bamboo forests, sunrises, sunsets, and ancient cypress groves. It’s my favorite place in Taiwan and an area I’ve explored extensively. Because transportation in Alishan is notoriously complex, I’ve created detailed resources on how to plan every step of your trip. Start with my Alishan guide, see how to get there, or follow my Alishan itinerary. You can also read about scenic stops like the Eryanping Trail, Shizhuo’s tea fields, Fenqihu’s old street and bamboo forests, and Taiping Bridge.
